The War of Constantine
He had just arrived, and the car disappeared into the darkness behind him. Now he was all alone in front of that dark, seemingly empty and abandoned palace. He took out his flashlight, preparing to explore it. However, when he approached it, he stumbled on a stone in the ground and fell over.
His flashlight broke! Now he was alone, in the dark and without any light! He got up and went closer. He stood in front of the large door, becoming increasingly much more scared than he was when he was in the car.
He knocked on it, and the door opened, but seemingly by no one. He walked forward. The building was almost like it was abandoned. Now he was extremely scared. Thankfully, he found another flashlight on a table nearby. He picked it up and turned it on - or at least tried to, for it wouldn't turn on.
He hit it and then tried again to turn it on. This time a very weak light appeared. It wasn’t much, but better than nothing. He aimed it at the stairs, made sure nothing dangerous was there, and started climbing them.
As he was climbing them, he noticed very large portraits of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. He also saw portraits of Colombian revolutionary Camilo Torres Restrepo and ELN leader Manuel Perez. Who was this man?
When he finally reached the top of the stairs, he suddenly heard a voice behind him, which scared him a lot.
-”Sir?” he said.
The mysterious figure turned the lights on, revealing a medium-sized, chubby man, with a long horseshoe mustache, a monocle and a pipe in his mouth. His hair was balding, although this was difficult to see with his fedora hat on.
His outfit? A soviet-style suit, usually worn by party officials in the former soviet union.
-”Hello, friend…”
-”Who… are you?”
-”Why are you here?” the mysterious man said.
-”I’ve been sent to take you alive, but I won’t hesitate to shoot if you leave me no choice!”
The mysterious figure took out a gun and aimed it at him.
-”Who are you?”
-”My name is Constantine Caviria. I am from Greece, and I discovered the truth and beauty of Catholicism at around 18.” said the mysterious figure, while putting his pipe back into his mouth.
-”Why?”
-”What do you mean?”
-”Why are you waging this war? Taking so many lives?”
-”Are you familiar with Camilo Torres Restrepo and Manuel Perez?”
-”Yeah, both were former Catholic priests who joined the guerillas. Why are you asking me this?”
-”My friend, these men, they understood that Catholicism’s goals and beliefs can not reign through peaceful methods. They understood that to rid this world of demon worship, they must use more… ‘effective,’ shall we say, means… and establish a socialist society based on Catholic ideals.”
-”And this is why you’re doing this? For your extremist religious and political beliefs?”
-”It’s not extremism to want the truth to reign, my friend…”
After he said these words, Constantine shot him, killing him.
The war of Constantine Caviria continues…
