1 year of Comrade Monke

Wow, can’t believe it’s been one year! One year of Comrade Monke stories and a few (utter garbage) video games I made. But still, it’s been a year.

This niche little character I introduced a year ago in From the motherland, with love! Has definitely had his ups and downs. We’ll start with the downs, and then end on a high note:

The games:

I didn’t like them very much. They are awful, monstrous little creations. I had to delist the first two because they were so embarrassingly bad I am convinced they were dangerous.

But let’s analyze the ones that are still available:

The Monke with the Golden Gun: An FPS episodic adventure where Monke goes on various missions. Honestly, probably the best one. It has many many flaws but it’s still somewhat fun to play through. I stole a texture from Doom in this one.

Comrade Monke 3D: The worst one. An awful game with some terrible AI art. I hate it with a deep passion and I wish I had never made it. I stole a wolfenstein 3D sprite.

Comrade Monke vs General Evil: This one’s ok ig. I stole some assets from wolfenstein 3D but it’s an original sprite this time at least.

The stories:

Ok, now these are actually pretty decent. They’re far from masterpieces, but they’re certainly readable. Hell maybe you’ll even have some fun reading through them.

Now, originally, there was one timeline. There still is, but let me explain:

For some reason, and this may be due to my autism, I had this issue with deciding who I wanted Monke to be. Was he a time-traveling soviet secret agent? Was he a space drifter and criminal outlaw? Was he this Blofeld-style villain? To settle this, I kept rebooting the timeline, creating multiple timelines.

There were also standalone stories that didn’t fit into any timeline.

Eventually, after sticking Monke into various scenarios where he was practically a different character each time, I decided the original idea of a time-traveling soviet secret agent monkey who was created as a soviet experiment, was the best. And that’s why i wrote Don Evil, a story where, at the start, Monke reflects on the various time-traveling missions he had gone through and the various timelines he had travelled to, and that’s where i make references to previous stories, establishing that all the stories and scenarios i had put Monke in were actually him just traveling between eras and timelines, but that he was one character.

Yeah, sorry for the wall of text.

Anyways. We looked at the evolution of Monke, now let’s look specifically into some stories:

From the motherland, with love!: In this one Monke goes after the legendary Spy Smasher. Not the first story I wrote, but the first that I published. I will be honest with you: despite the flaws, I still love what I wrote. Yes, it’s weird, it’s not very well written, but I really enjoyed writing it and creating this universe.

On the trail of Captain Nazi: One of the most well-known public domain villains, in this one Captain Nazi is being spied on by Monke. I also like this! It feels like a real spy story. A somewhat weak one, but again, I really enjoyed writing it and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Casino Climax!: Very obviously inspired by Casino Royale and featuring the public domain American version of James Bond, Jimmy, this one started giving Monke elements of David Niven’s James Bond from 1967’s Casino Royale film (one of my favourite films). I like it despite its flaws.

The future:

Comrade Monke will return, obviously. But you may be wondering what this return will look like, well, let’s break it down:

Stories:

I will keep writing stories and improving myself. I actually really enjoy writing them, even tho they may not always turn out great (Such as The kidnapping of 0P, which isn’t one of my best, to say the least)

Video Games:

I probably will make another FPS again, but for now, my focus is on an “easy” engine by the developers of Easy FPS Editor that will allow you to also make 3rd-person adventures and will be released soon! My next game will probably be a third-person shooter/adventure inspired by Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem: Time to Kill and featuring Comrade Monke.

And yeah! That’s pretty much it! Thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey, and the future’s exciting!
