Consider This Mercy
It was night. As the moon started appearing, the seas were calming down from the storm. A small sailboat was sailing.
Inside, the cabin was not very decorated or impressive: a small bed for one, a toilet and a very small kitchen. Next to the bed was a desk made of wood, and on it there were many electronic devices, including a laptop. In a smaller piece of furniture, there was a TV and a game console. Above the bed was a Christian icon of Jesus Christ, as the owner was a devout Christian. Next to the desk, hanging on the wall was a cage with a small domestic canary in it.
What a beautiful creature of God! One wing was completely yellow, while the other was mostly black, as was its face. It was a male and his name was Lelos. But who did the sailboat and canary belong to? None other than the legendary anthropomorphic monkey and former SMERSH leader and soviet agent Comrade Monke.
This sailboat was his new base of operations, 30+ years after the fall of the Soviet Union, Monke did not give up, but continued to operate, this time outside the law and without the sanctioning of any government.
But if he wasn’t on the side of the law, that also meant he couldn’t fly any official flag. Exactly why he flew a Jolly Roger. Almost a pirate now. His plans? He wasn’t sure anymore, but one thing was for certain: He hadn’t given up on the soviet and communist ideals. But now, he had to find another way to enforce them on the world, as they no longer existed except in a few countries.
Some said he had died, while others said he had retired in Cuba. Other rumors wanted him to have travelled to China.
Monke opened his laptop and through an internet browser, one of those that are private and suitable for online piracy, logged in to an underground, illegal website that sold weapons. His Makarov pistol was running out of ammo. Ofcourse, he couldn’t order any, being on a boat, but he could purchase them in person.
So he located a physical, illegal gun store in America and travelled there. He docked the small sailboat. Before exiting, he took the canary, Lelos, out of its cage and put it on his shoulder. He had trained Lelos to be very comfortable around him.
He exited and walked on the pier. He was stopped by someone with authority:
-”Halt! It costs 20 dollars to dock your sailboat here. What is your name?”
-”How about 30 dollars… and we forget the name?”
The person accepted.
Monke and Lelos kept moving.
They eventually found the shop. Monke entered, purchased ammo for the Makarov pistol, and left. As Monke was walking away, he felt as if something was off. Suddenly the window of a building broke and someone jumped out onto the street.
It was a… cyborg! Half-man, half-machine!
It pulled out a gun and tried to shoot at Monke but Monke dodged.
He ran away and the cyborg followed him. Monke kept running as fast as he could, and stole a car. But so did the cyborg. A car chase ensued. Monke eventually reached the pier. He got out and quickly went back to his boat.
Monke and Lelos got away in their sailboat. But the cyborg looked at them, and, with a very loud voice, swore revenge on Monke.
Monke heard this and was wondering why the cyborg was mad at him. Thankfully he remembered what it looked like. After 1 and a half hour of carefully drawing it, he took a picture of the drawing and did an internet research using the image as the basis.
It was then, when the search results showed up, that Monke realized who the cyborg truly was: It was Jenny Everywhere, AKA “The Shifter.”
But why would she be after Monke? What had he done?
But then Monke remembered: He had killed Jenny’s father during World War II, who was a Nazi Collaborator.
Monke was scared at the sheer thought of whom he had pissed off. Now, he tried to get as far from Jenny as possible. But then he realized that nowhere could he really hide. So he instead sent out a message to Jenny: “If you want to find me and have an honest and fair fight, meet me at 12:00 AM tomorrow in Manhattan.”
And that’s what happened. At 12:00 AM, Monke was there. When Jenny showed up, he took out his gun and threw it to the ground. He said to her:
-”No guns. Just hand to hand combat. If you’re going to kill me and take revenge for your father’s death, do it with your own powers.”
Jenny accepted.
She launched herself on him and started beating him with her punches.
Monke tried to resist but he couldn’t. Before Jenny could deliver the final blow however, Monke gathered all the strength he had left and punched her so hard he pushed her back. He then jumped on her and started punching her. But before he could deliver the punch that would kill her, he stopped himself.
-”Consider this mercy!”
He said and left.
Monke picked up his pistol and went back to his sailboat. Lelos was sleeping in his cage but he woke up, happy to see him alive and well.
Monke sailed off into the horizon and went to the sailboat’s cabin. He kissed Lelos for goodnight, and went to sleep, awaiting his next adventure…
